On 1st November 2012 the standard ISO/IEC 15189: 2012 Rev 3 Medical Laboratories –Requirements for quality and competence was published by ISO.

On 15th September 2012 the standard ISO/IEC 17065:2012 - Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services, was published, replacing I.S. EN 45011:1998 and ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996. ISO/IEC 17065:2012 also replaces the guidance document IAF GD 5:2006, IAF Guidance on the Application of ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996.

Over the last 12 to 18 months, INAB has held a number of development meetings with the EPA(Environmental Protection Agency) to review a number of options available to it in developing acceptable competence requirements for organisation providing stack emission testing. The EPA concluded that to ensure that the monitoring of process emissions is performed correctly it needed to be carried out by third party verifiable accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025).

The IAF has endorsed ISO/IEC TS 17021-2 as a normative document to be applied in conjunction with ISO/IEC 17021 for EMS.
